Framing is part preservation and part decoration, and truly an art unto itself.Frame-O-Rama has been custom framing art for savvy Bay Area clients for almost 40 years. We specialize in helping each customer enhance the beauty of their art by pairing it with the perfect frame, matting, and glass. Every frame is built entirely by hand, and each piece of art is fitted with exquisite care, by hand.
At Frame-O-Rama, we evaluate the needs of the art and the unique tastes of each customer. We have thousands of moulding choices, and hundreds of matting colors, in addition to limitless creativity. Our staff is fully-versed on industry standards for conservation and the latest framing technologies in order that we can inform our customers of the best choices to keep art healthy and protected for years to come.
Our framing collection includes traditional decorative wood and metal mouldings; genuine gold, white-gold, or silver-leafed closed-corner hand-finished mouldings; real leather-wrapped mouldings; and custom-cut and painted acrylic moulding.
We understand that many pieces of art are irreplaceable either because of rarity or sentimental value. Because of this, art is carefully store and only accessed at the final stage of framing. This ensures the least amount of handling.
At Frame-O-Rama, we use the highest-quality products to preserve your art. We offer all types of glazing: regular, UV-blocking, and Museum. We also carry 100% cotton rag mat boards, and use archival-grade tapes and components.
At Frame-O-Rama we carry all qualities of picture-frame quality glass and Plexi glass. Glass comes in regular, UV-filtering conservation quality, Reflection Control, and Museum quality glass. Museum quality has both UV-filtering and reflection control properties. As its name indicates, it was designed for museums. It is our highest quality of glass.
Plexi glass is an excellent choice for many frame jobs. In the San Francisco Bay Area we combat multiple environment factors: humidity and earthquakes. Plexi is a great choice for framing displayed in public areas (regardless of size,) very large art, art for children’s rooms, or any frame above a bed or workspace. Our staff can help you determine the best option for you. Plexi is available in regular, UV-filtering (OP-3), and Museum Quality.
The sun is particularly hard on certain types of art, such as watercolors, photographs, and posters. You can retard the fading process by choosing UV-protective glazing options. UV-glazing options work in the same way as sunscreen for skin: it will help keep art from burning—for a while. Eventually everything will fade. Heat and humidity, combined with light, will speed the process even more. Incandescent and florescent lighting will fade artwork as well. It is always recommended that treasured pieces be displayed out of direct daily sun exposure, and employ UV-filtering glazing. These special glazing options cost more than traditional clear glass but they are far less costly than replacing artwork.
