Matting is an essential element to framing. It enhances the art by highlighting color or textures. Additionally, matting holds paper-borne art away from the glazing, protecting it from potentially adhering. At Frame-O-Rama, we work with the highest-quality matting including 100% cotton rag. We specialize in fabric wraps, lifts, hand-painted and gilded bevels, as well as French Lines.

What is acid-free vs. 100% rag?

The term “acid-free” is sometimes used in the framing industry to refer to paper mats that have been treated until they are close to PH-neutral. This is NOT “rag”, “conservation” or “preservation” quality matting. Only rag boards made of 100% cotton fiber are considered “museum quality”. At Frame-O-Rama, we believe that anything worth framing is worth rag matting, however we carry high-quality buffered “acid-free” matboards as well. Our staff will help you understand the difference, and help you to decide which type of matting is right for your art.

Fabric-wrapped matting

Because we do all our work by hand, we can use just about any fabric for our hand-wrapped mats. We carry a large selection of fabrics including linen, silk, cotton, velvet, and microsuede, suede, and leather. We can work with our customer’s fabrics, however they may not mount and wrap as well as our options. We can discuss the options with you.
